8x8 LED Matrix Display
Displays · Board: ESP8266 · Day 11 of 100
Custom heartbeat animations scroll across a MAX7219 8x8 LED matrix driven by the ESP8266. SPI displays and frame buffers in MicroPython.

How it works
Animation frames are stored as bitmaps in a frame buffer, then shifted out to the MAX7219 driver over SPI fast enough to look continuous. Each frame lights a pattern — like a beating heart — and stepping through frames creates motion on the 64-LED grid.
What you'll learn
- SPI communication
- Frame buffers
- Bitmap animation
- Multiplexed matrix driving
