Short Video Shot Script
When to use
- Shooting a ~60-second TikTok / Reels / Shorts talking-head video: you have the idea but can't land it as a script
- You have selling points or knowledge to share and want to tell it as a story viewers finish — not a manual
- A narrative short needs a shot list before filming so camera, cast, and editing stay on track
- Paid ad creatives need script review first, so you don't discover broken logic after an expensive reshoot
- A team shoot needs one "anyone can read it and shoot it" execution sheet
Workflow
- Lock one core message
- Input: the topic the user wants to cover, target audience, what viewers should do after watching
- Action: keep asking until it fits one sentence — "what is the ONE thing this video wants viewers to remember?" More than one gets cut
- Output: one-sentence theme + audience sketch + desired action (like / buy / follow — pick one)
- Design the 3-second hook
- Input: the core message from step 1
- Action: pick one hook type — pain-point hit / counter-intuitive / suspense question — and write the first 3 seconds of lines + visual
- Output: hook lines (≤ 20 words) + hook type label + opening visual description
- Build the body skeleton (30–45s)
- Input: core message + user-supplied material (cases, data, method steps)
- Action: arrange into three beats — "pain resonance → method/story → evidence" — and assign each a time slot
- Output: beat outline, each with 1 key line + time range (e.g. 0:03–0:20)
- Place the twist and CTA (10–15s)
- Input: body skeleton
- Action: design one twist (reversal, elevation, or a quotable closing line), then write a CTA with a single action (action + the benefit it brings)
- Output: twist lines + CTA lines + matching visual notes
- Expand into a shot table
- Input: hook + body + twist + CTA
- Action: break into shots using template.md's four columns (shot / lines / visual / audio), marking each shot's duration and the running timeline
- Output: complete markdown shot table, total runtime 55–65 seconds
- Self-check and trim the lines
- Input: draft shot table
- Action: budget runtime at ~4 words/second for spoken English, cut written-style long sentences and repetitions — one shot, one point
- Output: final shot table + word count + runtime estimate
Output spec
- The shot table must be a markdown table with four columns: shot / lines / visual / audio; shot number and duration go as a prefix in the "shot" cell (e.g. "Shot 1 · 0–3s · close-up")
- The hook section must label its hook type (pain-point hit / counter-intuitive / suspense question) — unlabeled = unwritten
- All lines conversational and short, one sentence ≤ 15 words; no written-style or convoluted sentences
- The visual c
