Pitch Deck
When to use
- Preparing a fundraising pitch and need a complete story arc that fits in 10 minutes
- An internal project review where you must explain "why this, how, and how much" to leadership
- Competing in a startup competition or Demo Day and need a complete, instantly-understandable version
- You have a first draft of a deck but the logic is scattered, and it needs restructuring through an investor's eyes
- The founder can't articulate the product's value clearly and needs the one-line hook polished first
Workflow
Get the 6 key facts straight before writing a word: ① what it does in one sentence ② who the target users are and how much the pain hurts ③ product progress (demo / beta / launched + data) ④ market size (TAM / SAM / SOM, all three layers) ⑤ core team members' backgrounds ⑥ how much you're raising this round and how much equity is on offer. Chase down whatever's missing — never substitute hand-waving like "the market is huge" for facts.
- Gather ammunition (input: founder's notes / existing materials → output: fact list)
Write the cover page's one-line positioning in this format: "We're the [product] for [audience], [solving problem] with [approach]." Then distill 3 keywords — the entire deck revolves around those 3 words, and anything off-theme gets cut.
- Polish the hook (input: fact list → output: one-line positioning + 3 keywords)
Follow the 10-slide structure in the output spec. Every slide has: "slide title, the question it answers, up to 3 bullet points, image/data suggestion, script (speakable in 60 seconds)." Write the text draft first; only think about layout once the logic holds together.
- Write the per-slide script (input: hook + fact list → output: 10-slide outline)
Go slide by slide and check every number: sourced numbers get their source; unsourced ones become qualitative statements or get deleted; forecasts must be labeled "forecast" with the underlying assumptions; competitive comparisons only state publicly verifiable information.
- Honesty-check the numbers (input: first draft → output: annotated final draft)
Give per-slide layout guidance: type-size hierarchy, color palette (primary + secondary + accent, max 3 colors), chart suggestions (one chart per slide). No design files — but descriptions concrete enough for a designer or AI image tool to execute directly.
- Layout guidance (input: final draft → output: visual direction checklist)
Produce a dry-run checklist: is total time ≤ 10 minutes, does every slide have a "so what" (what does this mean for the investor), plus Q&A prep — the 5 most likely questions and answer outlines.
- Rehearsal checklist (input: final draft → output: dry-run self-check)
