What They Did
The Redditor sqlgenius pointed Claude at the tax folder on their computer and typed a short "do my taxes" request. Claude read the tax forms, asked a few follow-up questions, and carried over the Redditor's prior trading losses. To check it, the Redditor ran the same information through TurboTax.
How It Went
The Redditor says Claude produced federal and state returns for 2024 and 2025 in 15 minutes, and that TurboTax gave the same results. This is a self-reported Reddit claim. Experts quoted say it fits simple returns better than complex ones.
Worth Knowing
Claude can't e-file, so the returns must be mailed. The taxpayer is liable for any errors, and AI may use stale tax rules.
Try it yourself with Claude

Look through the folder [path to your tax folder] containing my [tax year] tax documents. Work out my federal and [state] returns, list every figure you pulled and which file it came from, and flag anything missing or ambiguous. Finish with a draft summary I can check against my tax software; do not file or send anything, and ask me before changing any files.
